Het boek gaat over Robbie en zijn zusje Roos. Roos is een bijzonder zusje, ze praat niet echt en gaat naar een andere school. Net zoals andere broers en zussen houden ze soms van dezelfde dingen, maar zijn ze toch verschillend.
Het boek is zeer geschikt om samen te lezen met jonge brusjes (= broertjes/zusjes van iemand met autisme). Het woord autisme komt niet aan bod, maar de concrete voorbeelden geven wel aan hoe het kan zijn om met een broer/zus met autisme samen te leven. Door de eenvoudige taal is het boek makkelijk te lezen. De vrolijke kleuren en leuke tekeningen maken het boek aantrekkelijk.
Gezien er weinig boeken bestaan gericht op jonge brusjes, is dit boek zeker een aanwinst voor organisaties die in contact komen met brussen. – Charlotte Willaert, Vzw Victor, thuisbegeleiding voor personen met autisme
Prentenboek waarin de aandacht uitgaat naar het gedrag en karakter van zusje Roos. Roos heeft bijzondere karaktereigenschappen, die in het sociale verkeer niet altijd begrepen of op waarde geschat worden. Zij is graag in haar eentje. Haar gedrag is soms lelijk, zelfs tegen oma, die dan niet boos wordt, wat Robbie niet altijd begrijpt. Roos krijgt namelijk nooit op haar kop en haar broertje Robbie wel. Broer en zus gaan niet naar dezelfde school, ze doen er andere dingen, maar leren allebei heel veel. Robbie en Roos kunnen goed met elkaar opschieten: ze lachen veel, dansen op muziek en Robbie is voor Roos een zorgzame, troostende broer. De tekst in een grote letter is kort maar veelzeggend, zeker in relatie met de schilderingen in grove verfstreken, die sprekend zijn in hun visuele eenvoud. Zal de auteur in de vertelling een autobiografisch gegeven hebben uitgewerkt? De inhoud gaat niet direct over (omgaan met) autisme, zoals het achterplat vermeldt. Elk kind heeft zijn bijzonderheden; bij Roos is het gedrag iets disharmonischer dan bij de “gemiddelde’ ander. This is a touchingly told story which shows, through a child’s eyes, what it’s like living with an autistic sibling. The brother and sister duo spend a lot of their day together, eating meals, going to school and playing. In many ways they are similar, but they also differ in many ways. Whatever happens, they have lots of fun together and love each other just the same.
